Browser infrastructure and automation
A headless browser is the most expensive way to load a page, and sometimes the only one that works. Doccraft measures when a browser is needed, what lighter engines can do, and how teams run browser infrastructure at scale.

- Do you need a browser for web scraping? A 1,000-site test
I tested the top 1,000 websites with a plain HTTP request and a headless browser. Of the 544 working homepages, only 5% needed JavaScript. Blocking was the bigger problem.
- Scraping JavaScript pages without a full browser, retested
ScrapingBee's OxyCon 2026 talk says jsdom can run a page's JavaScript with less than half a browser's memory. I reran it, added Lightpanda, and tried all of them on 29 real JavaScript sites.
